  • Soffit: the underside of the roof overhang. Fascia: the vertical board at the roof edge that supports the gutter and finishes the rafter ends.
  • They protect roof rafters from weather, pests, and moisture; soffit provides attic ventilation; fascia supports gutters and gives a finished look.

 

  • Common: vinyl, aluminum, wood (cedar, pine), fiber cement, and PVC. Each varies in cost, durability, and maintenance.

  • Signs: rotting or soft wood, peeling paint, sagging or detached sections, water stains, pest entry, visible rust or holes, poor attic ventilation.
  • Vented soffit panels let outside air enter the attic base; combined with roof vents, they maintain airflow to prevent moisture buildup, reduce ice dams, and extend roof life.

  • Both exist. Vented soffit is required where attic ventilation is needed; solid soffit is acceptable in conditioned attics or where alternative ventilation is provided.
  • Vinyl/aluminum: 20–50+ years (no rot, may fade). Wood: 10–30 years depending on maintenance. Fiber cement/PVC: 30+ years.
  • Yes—fascia supports gutters. Damaged fascia can cause gutters to sag or detach; proper installation ensures correct gutter slope/drainage.

We exist to serve our homeowners and their needs. However, there is an ideal order of operations when it comes to exterior remodels and renovations.

Every situation, policy, and home is unique. You can be sure that Nordic Exteriors will do everything possible to be a voice of reason and understanding during these stressful times. 

There is only one time that it is appropriate time to utilize an insurance claim and that is when there is actual storm damage from wind and hail, specifically in the last year. As general contractors, we are not policy experts nor should we be. We exist, in collaboration with our public adjustor and insurance estimator on staff, to advocate for you and to perform the work.  

We do offer discounts! Throughout the year, there will be discounts to first time customers. Year round, we do offer a senior discount and a veterans discount. Talk to your Exterior Consultant or Project Manager about discounts available to you.
